Description

We are looking for a full-time OR part-time Certified Peer Specialist position will be based out of Polk, Marshall, and Red Lake Counties.

As our Certified Peer Specialist, you will draw upon your personal growth experience to carry the message of hope and recovery to individuals who are currently enrolled in treatment services. You will use your lived experience of recovery from behavioral or chemical health challenges, plus skills learned in formal trainings, to deliver peer support services to adults diagnosed with mental illness, substance use and/or co-occurring disorder to promote recovery and resilience. Because of your own life experience, you are uniquely equipped to provide support, encouragement, and resources to individuals with behavioral and/or chemical health challenges. By offering outreach, encouragement and support, you will cultivate and secure a connection with the client, while teaching personal responsibility and serving as a mentor and role model.

As part of your job duties, you will be asked to provide direct support and coaching on the completion of daily living skills, linking to community supports, and accessing recovery services. It is also designed to assist clients in identifying and working towards their recovery goals. As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will be trained to empower clients that are engaged in home-based and community-based services.

Alluma will cover the cost of Certified Peer Specialist training. 

Requirements

Certified Peer Support Specialist Qualifications Level I:

  •  Is at least 21 years of age
  •  Has a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  •  Has a primary diagnosis of mental illness or substance use disorder AND be in recovery for a minimum of 2 years
  • Is a current or former consumer of mental health services
  • Must have successfully completed the DHS-approved Certified Peer Specialist training and certification exam (Obtained prior to employment or scheduled to attend with assistance from Alluma prior to employment)
  • Must pass a criminal background check through MH DHS NetStudy
  • Access to a personal vehicle and the ability and willingness to use the vehicle in carrying out the position’s responsibilities
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable under the agency’s automobile insurance policy.
  • Free from substance use problems for a period of no less than two years
